This community events calendar is the place to find fun activities and things to do throughout Lewis County, including Centralia, Chehalis and beyond.
“Support our troops” is a common phrase, seen on lawn signs and bumper stickers across America. Veterans are welcomed home by enthusiastic crowds, and thousands of service organizations help veterans find jobs, secure housing, and heal from the experience of war.
But it wasn’t always this way. Veterans returning from Vietnam were often greeted by mobs accusing them of being “baby killers.” Veterans from Korea felt their war was forgotten and unknown. And veterans from World War I, destitute during the Great Depression, were treated like criminals by their government.
Why and how has America’s treatment of its veterans changed over time? How have the country’s citizens responded to the call of duty from one war to the next? This presentation examines America’s relationship to wars and veterans over the last century, and what shapes our current national consciousness towards veterans and the wars they fight in our name.

Join us to battle invasive plants along the trail. There is blackberry and tansy galore! Every pair of hands can help. The City will provide a disposal trailer….let’s fill it!

Please come prepared for the weather; leather gloves help with thorns. Maybe your favorite shovel, loppers, or clippers.

Burnt Ridge Nursery founder Michael Dolan will lead a tour of our 20-acre organic fruit and nut orchard, with a focus on crops that ripen in the summer including blueberries, mulberries, and figs. Cultivation and propagation techniques will be discussed, as well as the specific characteristics of the varieties that do well here in the Pacific Northwest. Fruit samples and snacks will be provided to-go this year, and all events will be held outdoors in compliance with Washington state COVID guidelines. 2 tours: 10 am -noon and 1:30-3:30. Limit of 30 guests per tour. $15 per individual; $30 for a family (up to 4 people). Parking is limited, please carpool if possible. Work Party at the Chehalis River Discovery Trail

What: Discovery Trail Work Party to repair recent flood damage.
Snacks and drinking water will be available (bring your own bottle).
Due to hazards left by the floods, this event is not suitable for young children.
You must pre-register for this event. See instructions below.
Where: Chehalis River Discovery Trail, 1545 Goodrich Rd, Centralia. Parking for high
ground clearance vehicles will be at the old barn (follow the signs). Rides will
be provided as needed from the trail’s regular lot at the treatment plant.
When: 9 AM until 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 26th, 2022. Masking is optional.
Please join Chehalis River Basin Land Trust volunteers, the Great Old Broads and others as we work to repair recent flood damage along the Discovery Trail. (See: Discovery Trail along the Chehalis River (lewiscountytrails.org) Please arrive early to sign the waiver.
Sturdy gloves and suitable work clothes are recommended. We will have some garden tools and gloves available at the site. Please feel free to bring your own hand tools if you’d like.

Whether you’re an amateur or a skilled cornholer, sign up for a friendly, fun evening or cornholing and raise some funds to help vulnerable children and build strong families through FESS’s vital programs. Fess serves families in Thurston, Lewis, Mason and Pierce counties. Tourney includes two divisions: two-person social teams for casual players, and an individuals’ super-switch competitive division, using ACL standards. The action will be overseen by the Twin Cities Cornhole League of Centralia and Chehalis. The competition comes in the form of teams (such as firefighters vs. police officers) challenging one another. Prizes go to the three top teams, and a cash prize will be awarded in the super-swith competition. Fun prizes also awarded for categories like “best cornhole costume.” The evening includes a silent auction and a DJ and entertainment by Bobby Williams, founder of the Bridge Music Project.
The event is adult-only The cost is $100 per team – $50 per team member – for the social event; $60 per individual for the competitive super switch event. Food and drink is an additional $25. This will be a wine and dessert event for Chehalis River Basin Land Trust members and friends. We will have live music, a featured speaker, and live auction, along with updates on recent Land Trust projects and activities.
We’ll discuss the wide world of unusual and underappreciated fruits, including quince, medlar, persimmon, mulberry and the elusive Sorbus domestica (aka “chocolate pear”). We will also talk about the benefits of planting rare trees and what you can do with the fruit.
