Join other book lovers for coffee and a chat about books. No assigned reading! You pick! Share what you’ve been reading lately and hear from others about what they’ve been reading. Discussion facilitated by Chehalis Timberland Library Staff.
Please join us on Sunday, November 10 for a powerful reading by local poets Suzanne Simons and Larry Kerschner.
Suzanne Simons believes in the power of poetry, and other practices of non-violence and creativity to bring about change. A long-time faculty member in poetry and community studies at The Evergreen State College, Suzanne has worked with incarcerated populations at the Washington Correction Center in Shelton and helped establish the city of Olympia’s poet laureate position. Her work has appeared at the Josephy Cultural Center in Oregon, in stone at Olympia’s downtown skate park, and in the pages of Passager, Western Friend, and Aethlon: The Journal of Sports and Literature. Suzanne’s oldest son serves as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces.
Larry Kerschner spent 14 months in the Infantry in Vietnam. He’s been a registered nurse for 35 years – the last 25 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner in rural communities. Larry began writing poetry as a child and has been writing intermittently ever since. He is politically active with Veterans For Peace, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action and Pacific Life Community.
Larry has numerous chapbooks, and his work has been published in: Kickass Review; National Catholic Reporter; Crab Creek Review; Drama Garden; Half Drunk Muse; Voices in Wartime; Outsiders writers; Peace in Our Times; The Veteran, and a number of online sites.
This is a FREE EVENT; however, space is limited, so be sure to reserve a seat.
