Imagine the pure happiness and excitement on a dog’s face when they get to run freely in a safe and secure space. Sadly, this is a reality that many dogs can only dream of. However, there is hope, which comes in the form of Fences for Fido. With their mission and our support, we can positively impact the lives of dogs in Lewis County and create a better future for them.

What is Fences for Fido?

Fences for Fido is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the lives of dogs in the Pacific Northwest, one fence at a time.

Cofounder Katrina Kennedy has been dedicated to this mission for most of her life. “Every dog deserves a safe and secure place to play and exercise,” says Kennedy. “That’s what Fences for Fido is all about.”

The organization builds fences for tethered dogs, confined to small spaces, or living in less-than-ideal conditions. Fences for Fido’s work is about more than just providing a physical barrier. They help dogs live happier, healthier lives. Dogs can burn off energy and release stress by providing a safe, secure space to play and exercise. They can also form stronger bonds with their families since they can spend time together outside.

Fences For Fido began in Portland and now serves the Oregon and Washington coast, Willamette Valley, Central Oregon and Warm Springs Reservation. In addition to Multnomah County, Fences for Fido also serves Southwest Washington, including Cowlitz County, Clark County, and Lewis County.

How Does Fences for Fido Work?

Fences for Fido builds fences on a case-by-case basis. If you’re a dog owner interested in having a fence built for your dog, you can fill out an online application on the organization’s website. Once your application is received, reviewed and processed, Fences for Fido will contact you to discuss your situation.

“If there is a need for a site visit before a potential build, a team of volunteers will assess the property and determine the best location for the fence,” Kennedy explains. “They’ll also consider any special needs your dog and your family might have, such as a need for shade and family access. Once all the details have been worked out, Fences for Fido will begin the process of scheduling the fence build.”

Fences for Fido relies solely on the generosity of kind-hearted individuals who understand the value of a furry friend. With every donation of money, materials, and time, Fences for Fido builds fences and dog houses for dogs in need. But they can’t do it alone. They need our help. By volunteering with Fences for Fido, we can make a difference in the lives of these canine friends. We can help promote responsible pet ownership, positive reinforcement training methods, and community safety. Join the movement today, and let’s work together to improve the lives of these deserving dogs.

Why Is Fences for Fido Important?

The work that Fences for Fido does is incredibly important for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps improve the lives of dogs currently living in less-than-ideal conditions. By providing these dogs with a safe, secure space to play and exercise, Fences for Fido can reduce the risk of injury and increase the dogs’ overall well-being.

“We believe every dog deserves a chance to experience the joy of running free and living their best life,” Kennedy adds.

In addition to the direct impact on dogs, Fences for Fido also works to raise awareness about the dangers of tethering and confinement. The organization’s volunteers often speak at public events and engage with dog owners to promote responsible pet ownership and encourage the use of positive reinforcement training methods.

“Our work is about more than just providing a physical barrier,” says Kennedy. “We’re advocating for responsible pet ownership, positive reinforcement training methods, and community safety.”

Finally, Fences for Fido’s work positively impacts communities as a whole. Dogs who can exercise and play outside are less likely to bark excessively, become aggressive or engage in destructive behaviors.
