Lewis County Parks & Recreation is kicking off its park season with the opening of Schaefer County Park this holiday weekend.

Beginning this Saturday, April 16, the 14-acre park located at 822 WA-507 in Centralia, will have its gates open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to dusk.

“We are excited to be opening six weeks earlier than in recent years, and just in time for Easter,” said Director of Parks & Recreation Connie Riker.

Park visitors can enjoy the playground, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, Skookumchuck River access, hiking, covered areas and more. Restrooms are also open during the park’s operating hours.

The use of large picnic tables, barbeques, and shared use of a covered area, are available for rent. More rental and group reservation information can be found by calling 360.740.1495 or online.

“We are excited about the future upgrades to the playgrounds this summer,” Riker added in reference to the new equipment that will be installed in multiple county parks.

Park enthusiasts can stay tuned for those updates as well as other upcoming announcements from Parks & Recreation, as the staff is also gearing up to roll out the opening of the additional county parks in the coming weeks.
