“Make space in your life for the things that matter, for family and friends, love and generosity, fun and joy. Without this, you will burn out…and wonder where your life went.” Wise advice from philosopher and scholar Jonathan Sacks, especially during the always hectic—and often stressful—holiday season.

Locally, the devoted families behind T.J. Guyer Property Management strive to provide for their community, especially during the holidays. While their busy office help renters and property owners manage day-to-day housing issues, this time of year they also host a bustling food drive to help Lewis County families in need.

Team member Maggi Beckett explains that “our office has been doing a food drive or family Thanksgiving program for a few years. We believe in giving back to our community as a whole and one of the ways we do that is by supporting our local Greater Chehalis Food Bank. This time of year, we like to help collect, donate, and bring about awareness of the importance that our local food bank serves.”

Families wanting to assist are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food and other needed items to their offices at 1646 South Market Boulevard in Chehalis. Donors will receive a free Subway gift card as a thank you while supplies last, and collected items are picked up for distribution every Friday through the end of December.

“Anyone can drop off donations of food or in-kind financial donations to our office. All checks should be made out directly to The Greater Chehalis Food Bank and we can facilitate to make sure it gets there. Food needs are non-perishable, but they also accept many things like shampoo, diapers, wipes, baby formula, soap, deodorant, laundry soap, dish soap, and more,” says Beckett. “We have already started to receive food and we will collect all the way through the end of December. Our office is conveniently located on Market Street to make dropping off an easy in and out.”

Beckett explains that “what led us to this event was our basis and belief system of local business giving back to our community through many various ways and this is one we can do! We believe that every opportunity we have to give back, we will. Lewis County is special and many small businesses that we do business with participate in various ways of giving back. Each one is different in their passions and what coincides with their mission statement.”
