Adna High School senior Kendall Humphrey has spent the past four years building a legacy defined by athletic excellence, leadership and community pride. As a standout on the Adna Pirates fastpitch team, Humphrey’s senior season is a powerful reflection of her hard work and the support of a small town in Lewis County that rallies behind its athletes.

Adna Pirate Softball Earns Three Consecutive State Titles With 2025 Season

The 2025 Adna Pirates fastpitch softball team proved once again why they are a dominant force in Washington’s 2B division. Seeded third, the Pirates dominated top-ranked Freeman for a 10 – 6 State Championship win. For the first time in the division, a 2B team demonstrated the resilience and elite-level play necessary to complete this audacious task three years in a row.

Thrilling victories and commanding wins highlighted the championship season, which was completed with the tenacity and talent of fellow seniors Danika Hallom, Karsyn Freeman, and Gaby Guard. “We came into those matchups with a mindset of team focus,” Humphrey said. “It felt incredible to prove what we’re capable of, especially in those high-pressure moments.”

Kendall Humphrey’s Multi-Sport Career Sets the Standard in Adna Athletics

Humphrey’s individual athletic résumé reads like a blueprint for success in Adna High School sports. A multi-sport athlete since childhood, she has participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball all four years of high school, collecting accolades in each. Her senior year alone saw her named First Team All-League in volleyball and softball and First Team All-State in volleyball.

“I’ve always loved the different challenges each sport brings,” Humphrey said. “They’ve taught me so much about teamwork, perseverance, and finding joy in the process.”

Throughout high school, Humphrey consistently helped lead Adna teams to top finishes across league, district, and state tournaments, often medaling and sometimes bringing home the championship. Her junior year fastpitch season was a crown jewel, with Adna achieving the rare “triple crown” of league, district, and state titles. That achievement earned them a special invitation to walk the field at a Seattle Mariners game.

“Being recognized by the Mariners was surreal,” Humphrey recalled. “Getting acknowledgment for our small town. It really showed how far our hard work had taken us.”

Off the field, Humphrey expresses her creativity through quilting and crafting, with projects that reflect her discipline and attention to detail. “Sewing a quilt from start to finish taught me patience, and I’ve found that same focus helps me when I’m in high-stakes situations,” she said.

She’s also stepping into a mentorship role, helping coach her younger sister’s T-ball team. “It’s so rewarding to pass down what I’ve learned. Those kids might be future Pirates. It’s cool to be part of that,” she added.

Adna’s Community and Coaching Culture Fuel a Winning Mindset

The Adna Pirates softball program is known throughout the league for its winning tradition and sportsmanship, values that extend from the dugout to the stands. Community members fill bleachers at home and away games, bringing generations of Pirate pride to each inning.

“Our community is amazing,” Humphrey said. “Whether we’re winning or facing challenges, the support is always there on and off the field. It makes us want to play even harder.”

According to Humphrey, the coach, Bruce Pocklington, and the entire coaching staff play a significant role in building more than just athletes. “Our coach won’t let us settle for ‘good enough,’” she said. “He pushes us to reach our full potential and become better people, not just better players.”

After tough losses, the team bounced back with dominant wins, a testament to the Pirates’ grit and unity. “We never let setbacks define us,” said Humphrey. “Our energy on the field comes from how much we believe in each other.”

As Humphrey prepares to graduate, she leaves behind a record of excellence and a path for others to follow. This fall, she will continue her athletic and academic journey at Lower Columbia College, where she plans to play both softball and volleyball.

“I want to bring the same energy and leadership to my college teams that I’ve been lucky to experience at Adna,” she said. “I’m ready to give everything I’ve got.”

Humphrey brought intensity, poise, and purpose to every game she played. Raised in a family with deep Adna roots, she wore the Pirate uniform with pride and set the tone for her teammates. As her high school chapter comes to a close, she leaves behind more than her stats. She leaves a clear example of what it means to be an Adna Pirate and a path of excellence for younger athletes to follow.

That belief extends to younger players in the community who view the current team as role models. “It means a lot to know younger girls are looking up to us,” she said. “We’re showing them what’s possible when you work hard and love what you do.”
