Until recently, virtual reality was the stuff of science and science fiction. The term conjured images of expensive computers, fancy software, and high-tech helmets, gloves or goggles. Now all you need is a smart phone, a bit of cardboard and a couple cheap lenses. Voilà, virtual reality, visions and sensations that trick your mind into experiencing the unreal as real.
Library staff members will guide participants through a simple process of assembling the Google Cardboard kits – provided free of charge. The kits accommodate smartphones up to six inches. There are free Google Cardboard apps for both Android and Apple phones that provide experiences such walking on the moon, flying a plane, riding a rollercoster, even duck hunting.
