Submitted by Lewis County Public Health & Social Services

Due to the impacts of COVID-19 on local food establishments, Lewis County Public Health & Social Services (LCPHSS) is recommending that existing 2020 Food Establishment permits be extended through the end of April 2021. A resolution for extending 2020 Food Establishment permits will be submitted to the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) in January.

The permit extension was discussed during the December Board of Health (BOH) meeting and was well received by BOH members.

“We understand the incredible sacrifices being made by our local hospitality community. Soon we will be in touch with a new timeline that accounts for this time unable to be open in the traditional sense. Until then we will be continuing food inspections and processing new permanent food establishment permit requests,” Environmental Health Supervisor Bill Teitzel said.

Once the BOCC approves the extension of 2020 Food Establishment permits until the end of April 2021, a letter with the extension will be sent out to 2020 permit holders. A new timeline for payments will be announced sometime during the first quarter of 2021.

Food establishments who want to make payments now are able to with LCPHSS. The 2021 Food Establishment permit will be required on May 1, 2021.
