Blessings from Ben 2nd Annual Holiday Event in Honor of Benjamin Eastman

Share the love this holiday season and join Blessings from Ben for the second annual holiday event in honor of Benjamin Eastman. This fun family-friendly charity event is on December 14 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 156 Peters Road in Randle.

Come gather around the bonfire and listen to holiday music until dusk when the lighting of the star and share the love sign on the hilltop overlooking Randle.

The event is free and open to all ages. Please, bring a toy or stocking stuffer that will be donated to the local Toy & Joy Drive for the community.

Each child in attendance receives a small gift. Free hot chocolate, coffee and smores. Santa will be there for photos. There are also Blessings from Ben Christmas bears for sale.

A drawing will take place for a cool hoverboard and fun drone. Raffle tickets are $1 each and go on sale starting November 18 until the December 14 event. Buy tickets online at the Blessings from Ben Facebook page through PayPal or individually from B.j. Eastman, Christy Hampton, Cathy Eastman or Rhonda Wharton-Bridges.

All proceeds will go to the non-profit organization Blessings from Ben to support student-athletes and local grieving families after the loss of a child.

Researchers can bring their genealogy questions to get help from members of the Lewis County Genealogical Society. Whether you’re just starting out or are stuck on a difficult problem, the experts are here to help! The workshop is held every third Saturday of the month and this series will be held in the small meeting room.

Christmas Tree Recycling @ Central Transfer Station

Another great opportunity to recycle and minimize the impact on your local landfill. Deliver your Christmas tree to the Central Transfer Station at 1411 S. Tower Street in Centralia and have it turned into usable mulch for the community. Please ensure all decorations are removed from the tress! You can also recycle white Styrofoam at this time. No trees or wreaths from commercial operations are accepted. Flocked, artificial and or decorated trees may not be recycled. The collection of trees will begin December 26 and continue until January 12. The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donations gladly accepted to support WSU Lewis County Master Gardeners and WSU Lewis County Recyclers.

Cultivating Voices: Putsata Reang & Michele Bombardier @ Shakespeare & Company: Coffee and Used Books

Please join us on Sunday, January 19 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. for this incredible literary event!

Putsata Reang is an award-winning author and journalist, born in Cambodia and raised in Corvallis, OR. Her writings have appeared in the New York Times, The Guardian, Ms, The Seattle Times and the San Jose Mercury News among other publications. She has lived and worked in more than a dozen countries including Afghanistan, Cambodia and Bangladesh.

Putsata is an alum of residencies at Hedgebrook, Kimmel Harding Nelson and Mineral School. She is a current fellow of the Jack Straw Writers program. She graduated with  bachelor of arts degrees in English and journalism at the University of Oregon. Her memoir, forthcoming from Farrar, Straus and Giroux, explores themes of debt and duty as the child of immigrants and the displacement of being a gay refugee

Michele Bombardier’s debut collection What We Do was a Washington Book Award finalist and described by Ellen Bass as “a call to empathy”. Her work has been published in dozens of journals including Alaska Quarterly Review, Atlanta Review, Bellevue Literary Review and others. Michele has been a fellow at Hedgebrook, Mineral School and Centrum. She earned her MFA at Pacific University and is the founder of Fishplate Poetry, a social-purpose organization that offers workshops and retreats while raising money for humanitarian relief, specifically medical care for refugees in the Middle East and Northern Africa. She teaches poetry at BARN in Bainbridge Island and Hugo House in Seattle.
