Celebrate Earth Day! Work party at Borst Park on Saturday, April 23rd with Lewis County Stream Team and Noxious Weed Control.

What: Learn about noxious weeds and riparian zone management from professional guest speakers, take part in removing invasive Italian arum and replanting native species. Snacks, shovels, and work gloves will be provided. This is a great opportunity to see the changes at the park, connect with your community and give back to the environment for Earth Day 2022.

Where: Borst Park, 2030 Borst Ave, Centralia, WA 98531. Meet near the Borst Home located past the baseball fields.

When: Saturday, April 23rd from 10AM – 3PM.

What to Bring: Long sleeves and work boots are recommended. Optional to bring your own shovels and hand tools.

Who: Sponsored by Lewis County Noxious Weed Board, Centralia City Parks, Lewis County Stream Team, Master Gardeners, and Borst Arboretum Botanical Society. Native plants were donated by Buds and Blades Landscape Company.

Guest Speaker Renee Corcoran will give a talk, in period dress, of her great-great grandmother Mrs. Sidney Ford (who settled Ford’s Prairie in Centralia, WA) in the mid-19th century. On site will also be some Pioneer Crafts and Trades Living Historians. Look forward to seeing you all.

Discovery Trail Work Party @ Chehalis River Discovery Trail, Centralia

The Chehalis River Basin Land Trust will hold a Work Party at the Chehalis River Discovery Trail, near Centralia, from 9 am until 12 noon, on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022. We’ll be removing thistles, tansy and other invasive weeds from areas near the trail.
The Discovery Trail is at 1545 Goodrich Rd, Centralia. Follow the event signs to parking near the old red barn. Water, snacks, and other cold drinks will be provided (please bring your own bottle for water.).
Please dress for the weather and bring sturdy work gloves and footwear. We will have some garden tools and gloves available at the site but feel free to bring your own hand tools.

The Wynoochee River: Come Experience It!

Pack a picnic lunch and hang out at the river with us! Wade in, enjoy a swim, kayak and learn how to safely enjoy the river while also protecting its waters.

Community groups will be on hand to:
• Provide boater and water safety information
• Share knowledge and activities on salmon, water quality and stream flow
• Provide information on ways to get involved with Grays Harbor Stream Team and more!

Location: Twin Bridges County Park, Montesano
FREE!

Parking is limited. Please plan to carpool. Every half hour, a free Grays Harbor Transit shuttle bus will be available leaving from the Montesano Library.
No lifeguards will be on duty.

Join Biologists Curt Holt (WDFW) and Teal Waterstrat (USFWS) to learn about these lesser-known, fascinating species. Both mussels and lamprey play a key role in the ecosystem of the rivers and streams and have a rich history in the Pacific Northwest. Learn about the challenges they are facing to survive and how you can help them! This event is free and family friendly.
