Local Business Owner Credits Seifert Law Offices for More Stable Work Situation and Brighter Future After Moving to United States

One of those clients is Mariscal, who owns the local Cinco de Mayo Raspados, Fruits and More family restaurant business. Mariscal grew up in Mexico and has been in Washington almost 20 years. In Mexico Mariscal was an avid distance runner who ran for the prize money, and diligent worker holding two or three jobs at a time. Life was hard, and financially insecure. He wanted to improve his situation, so he relocated to the United States.

Mariscal took entry level jobs upon his arrival, including as a dishwasher. He attended English as a Second Language classes at the South Puget Sound Community College to remove the language barrier to getting better jobs. Over the years, he moved up in his work positions. He became a supervisor at a chain restaurant, and then opened a restaurant in 2017 using family recipes. He also continued his serious running, starting a local running group in 2010.

The business owner says he reached out to the Seifert Law Offices to explore enrolling in the federal Social Security system, which would help him secure work and plan for his future. Noncitizens may be eligible for Social Security if they are in the United States legally as permanent legal residents or have permission to work related to a visa application.

At first, Mariscal says he had little hope in entering the Social Security program. “I didn’t know I had the possibility to apply for it,” he explains. But then he consulted with Seifert. “The Seifert law firm is a great option for someone who does not know how to do it. I hired Lisa to ask all the right questions,” he says.

After his Social Security card was issued, he says he felt good. He believes his work life is more settled, and now his business can get credit. He continues to seek U.S. citizenship. Meanwhile, he thanks Seifert for helping him obtain that more stable work environment, providing greater opportunities now and in the future. He recommends that others in his position reach out to the Seifert Law Offices. “Then you could change your life,” he says.
