Travelers who use State Route 6 and SR 508 throughout Lewis County will need to plan ahead to avoid delays.
On Thursday, August 1, the Washington State Department of Transportation’s contractor Granite Construction Company, will continue work to smooth and repair these two stretches of highway using a bituminous surface treatment, or chip seal, in the following locations:
- SR 6: 23-mile stretch between Interstate 5, near milepost 51.4 and Pe Ell near milepost 28.3.
- SR 508: 32-mile section between I-5 near milepost 0.0 and Morton near milepost 32.8.
What to Expect
- Thursday, August 1 to Friday, August 9: Travelers along both directions of SR 6 will alternate intermittently through a single lane on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, August 12 to Monday, August 26: Travelers along both directions of SR 508 will alternate intermittently through a single lane, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During chip sealing, travelers will follow flaggers and be guided by a pilot car through the area, and delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected.
A reminder to travelers to please be patient when traveling in work zones. Traveling at the posted speed limit ensures the safety of highway users and road crews and helps to prevent flying rock from the chip seal process.
Once chip seal work is complete, crews will add lane markings, including restriping and applying fog sealing along the travel lanes. This project is scheduled for completion in fall 2024.
Because this work requires warm, dry weather, it may be rescheduled at any time.
