The year 2020 approaches and as Lewis County’s wonderful residents move into the new year, there are often resolutions made. The beginning of the year is often the catalyst for new goals including self-improvement and living a healthier lifestyle. The fresh start of a new year is the perfect time for resolutions. Getting more exercise and eating healthy is easier with local businesses and places to help achieve and keep new year’s resolutions.

Move Your Body

The start of getting fit begins with simply moving your body and exercising. There are plenty of local gyms with something for everyone looking to get in shape for the new year.

Don’t want to pay for a gym membership to reach fitness goals? There are plenty of opportunities in Lewis County to get exercise while enjoying our wonderful outdoor areas. Take a hike or hit the Willapa Hills Trail and explore nature’s wonders right here.

Eat Healthily

The holidays are filled with food and often the choices are not the healthiest versions. Outside of exercise, the path to a healthy 2020 is eating good-for-you food. Thankfully there are plenty of ways to do that at home and when enjoying local restaurants.

With a plethora of local farms in Lewis County, eating healthy at home is easier with the help of area farmers. From Pe Ell to Packwood and all points in-between find farms with everything from fresh fruit and veggies to cheeses, meats and more to help meet nutrition goals in 2020. Since 1976, Good Health Nutrition Center in Centralia is Lewis County’s go-to place for healthy food, supplements and local beauty items. The helpful and friendly staff is trustworthy with excellent product knowledge.

Find fresh produce and more at local markets. Jeremy’s Market & Fruit Stand sells fresh, local, organic produce, milk, cheese, eggs and bread. Mt. Capra offers pastured eggs, apple cider vinegar, goat milk butter (ghee) and various powdered goat milk products such as protein, minerals, lactose, cream and yogurt.

Going out to eat doesn’t have to mean giving up on goals. Local restaurants like Chehalis’ Jeremy’s Farm to Table feature organic, locally sourced menu options. For delicious soup and yummy sandwiches made with fresh, local ingredients head to Shakespeare and Company: Coffee & Used Books. Joy’s Once Upon a Thyme’s menu is full of fresh items prepared with healthy, seasonal ingredients.

In Centralia, eat well with the massive salads at Berry Fields Cafe. Find pitas and salads at Boccata Restaurant in the heart of the historic downtown.

Sometimes in order to keep a goal to lose weight or improve fitness, accountability helps keep people on track. Local TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) groups meet in various locations around Lewis County. Weight Watchers is another option for a weight loss program locally. Using apps on a smartphone or with a fitness tracker is also an easy way to track calories and exercise.

According to research, about 60 percent of people make New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, many do not follow through with their goals. Achieve a healthier lifestyle in 2020 with the help of wonderful local businesses in Lewis County.
