New banners now grace the light poles on Market Street in historic downtown Chehalis giving a shout-out to the downtown’s past. Fifteen banners include historic images of downtown Chehalis.

“Look closely and you will notice that each photo corresponds to the area in which it was placed,” notes Annalee Tobey, Executive Director of the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team.

The banners are a joint project between the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team (CCRT), the City of Chehalis and the Lewis County Historical Museum. The project was designed and funded by CCRT. Fabrication of the brackets and installation of the banners was accomplished by the City of Chehalis staff. Photos were provided by the Lewis County Historical Museum.

“This project is another example of the progress that can be made between great partners with common goals,” states Tobey.

“It is our hope the banners will add to the historic atmosphere downtown and enhance the experience for our local shoppers and out of town guests. We have a tremendous history and we are proud to have that on display” said Tobey.

This initial installation is phase one of Chehalis’ banner project. Tobey says, “We plan to expand the banners to other areas in downtown later this year. This first batch will test the banners’ durability before further investment is made.”
