This month, the Centralia Timberland Library kicks off a fundraising program to raise $50,000 to help remodel the children’s area within the library, focusing on more opportunities for early learning and discovery. The goal is in addition to nearly $50,000 that already has been raised or pledged.
Citing early education experts, library manager Susan Faubion asserted that “play is the work of childhood.”
“Studies prove,” she continued, “that playtime is essential early learning time for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.”
The expanded and remodeled area will be a space for self-directed and parent-assisted play. Glass partitions will provide noise control for patrons in other areas of the library, while allowing for easy staff and parent supervision. Older children will also benefit from the project with a separate reading and hangout space.
Faubion and library administrators are working on two fronts – finalizing project details and directing the fundraising. The Friends of the Centralia Timberland Library are fully engaged in the fundraising effort. Work is slated to begin this fall and may take several months to complete. Faubion promises that when it is finished, there will be a grand opening celebration, and that “kids will love the new space!”
The Centralia Timberland Library is located at 110 S. Silver Street. For more information, call the library at 360-736-0183 or visit www.TRL.org.
