The time capsule was scheduled to be opened in June 2020; however, with the opening of the new Smith Elementary, the capsule was unearthed one year early. Current Smith Elementary School students are planning to bury their own time capsule at the new Orin Smith Elementary. The wish is that the new time capsule be opened in the year 2045.

Artifacts included the Chronicle from June 2, 1995, a Seattle Times, a 1995 J.C. Penney’s catalog, a picture of the students and principal from that year, baseball cards of the time, an Olympic Elementary tee-shirt, and other various school and kid memorabilia.
