This community events calendar is the place to find fun activities and things to do throughout Lewis County, including Centralia, Chehalis and beyond.
Every second and fourth Thursdays. Hang out with friends, eat snacks, and play Magic the Gathering and board games. Newcomers are welcome! Snacks provided by the Friends of the Chehalis Timberland Library.
Solo Together is a free four day opportunity for 13-18 year olds who have lost a loved one to explore the wild in their own neighborhood, engage in creative activities to connect with nature and process their grief, and connect virtually with other grieving teens and skilled guides. If you are a grieving teen, this is a hike for you. It’s teens only so you will be others who get it about grief, have a chance to see how Wild Grief facilitates connecting with nature, your grief and each other. No previous hiking experience needed. We will hike through mountain meadows full of wildflowers, and have breathtaking views of Mount Rainier and Edmonds Glacier. We expect the hike to last at least 5 hours with time to honor our grief and soak up the beauty.

Burnt Ridge Nursery founder Michael Dolan will lead a tour of our 20-acre organic fruit and nut orchard, with a focus on crops that ripen in the summer including blueberries, mulberries, and figs. Cultivation and propagation techniques will be discussed, as well as the specific characteristics of the varieties that do well here in the Pacific Northwest. Fruit samples and snacks will be provided to-go this year, and all events will be held outdoors in compliance with Washington state COVID guidelines. 2 tours: 10 am -noon and 1:30-3:30. Limit of 30 guests per tour. $15 per individual; $30 for a family (up to 4 people). Parking is limited, please carpool if possible. Grow Your Own Produce is a 10 class monthly series taught by permaculture expert Marisha Auerbach. Each class features seasonally-relevant information about planning, growing, maintaining, and harvesting food from your own vegetable garden.

Each month, the class is designed to help you maximize your yields and efforts in the garden by providing an overview of key activities to engage in at the right time each month from February through November. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month through Zoom. Before the class meeting, participants will receive a collection of handouts supporting the key topics for the month with a garden checklist for the month ahead. We will discuss different subjects that are pertinent to the garden that month using slides and the month’s handouts as reference. There will be ample time each class session for questions. After each class, participants receive a video of the class and pdf of the slides.

Marisha Auerbach has spent many years observing and interacting in her garden and in the gardens of the greater Pacific Northwest bioregion. She has been growing most of her own produce year ‘round for over the past decade. To learn more about Marisha, please visit her bio page.
