Celebrate World Fish Migration Day 2020
“Salmon Come Home”
Chehalis Basin Walks,
Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Chehalis River Discovery Trail
The Chehalis Lead Entity in cooperation with the Lewis Conservation District are sponsoring “Salmon Come Home” to the Chehalis basin walks. The walks will be held at 10:00am and 1:00pm along the Chehalis River Discovery Trail in Centralia.
While enjoying a leisurely walk along the Chehalis River, participants be guided to notice the rivers’ restored Black cottonwood and Douglas fir riparian zones, and will discover the vital role our native anadromous salmon play in the Chehalis basin. Participants will learn about other successful salmon restoration projects in the basin, and ways we can all protect our local salmon. Hopefully, we’ll even spot salmon on their return to the Chehalis basin!
Family groups welcome.
Pre-registration is required. To register, or for more information, contact Kenna Kosnacht at Kenna.fosnacht@lewiscdwa.com or Alexa Brown, at graysharborstreamteam@gmail.com. Specific meeting location details, and other pertinent information will be provided upon pre-registration.
For the walks, COVID-19 protocols will be in place — 6ft+ distancing, masks will be required, and group sizes will be limited.
World Fish Migration Day is celebrated to raise global attention to restore river connections for migrating fish, to achieve healthier fish stocks, and more productive rivers.
