Plan a Bridgerton-Inspired Kite Flying Date in Grays Harbor

Romantic date and inexpensive rarely go hand in hand. But if your significant other is a Bridgerton fan, why not treat them to a day of kite flying on the Washington coast? Grays Harbor beaches are perfect for kite flying! Just pick out a kite at one of the local stores and head to the sands. You’ll bond just like Benedict and Sophie as you watch your kits dip and swerve together in the wind.

Afterwards, have a romantic dinner at one of the many restaurants with an ocean view:

  • Koko’s Restaurant: Mexican cuisine and known for its margaritas! They have a patio with ocean views. (5 W Myrtle Ln, Pacific Beach)
  • Ocean Crest Resort Dinner House: Overlooking the Pacific Ocean with award-winning cuisine, specializing in seafood. Make a weekend of it and book an ocean-view room! (4651 WA-109, Moclips)
  • Quinault Beach Resort & Casino Emily’s Dining: farm-to-table dining with steaks and fresh seafood. Another great place to spend a weekend and book a room. (78 State Route 115, Ocean Shores)

Grays Harbor Kite Flying with Kids

Kite flying is a novel break from the digital world for kids. And, for those who grew up on classic Disney, it’s a fun nod to Mary Poppins that will get “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” humming in your child’s head as they feel that first tug on the string.

Ocean Shores Kites owners Andy and Brenda Sias recommend kites that come pre-assembled for kids. “[They] have no parts to lose,” Andy says, “Open it and it flies. Can’t damage them. If no wind, run with it!”

Lindsi Fry of Brooklets Toys in Seabrook recommends their single-line and pocket kits for kids ages 5 and up.

Grays Harbor Kite Flying Tips

Before you get your soul flying, here are some Grays Harbor kite flying tips from the experts at Ocean Shores Kites and Brooklets Toys:

  • Fly kites when the wind is blowing between 5-15 mph. (Pros can fly in less or more wind, with specialty kites designed for extreme wind conditions, Andy adds)
  • Single-string kites are the simplest for beginners. Andy says they should fly themselves in proper wind.
  • Ocean Shores is a favorite beach for kite flyers because it’s large, flat and easy to access with vehicles for those with big kites. It’s why the owners of Ocean Shores moved there over three decades ago!
  • Seabrook also has great beaches nearby, including Seabrook, Pacific Beach and Moclips, which are wide with ample room to spread out. Lindsi says ever-blowing breezes make them great for kite flying in Grays Harbor.
  • Stop by and ask questions! The shop owners and staff are happy to get you the right kite.

Let’s go fly a kite! Up where the air is clear! Grays Harbor is where it’s at, to go…fly a kite!
