The 3rd Annual Yes We CAN! Preservation Dinner will take place at the Twin Cities Senior Center on Saturday, March 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This potluck dinner will be a celebration of local farmers and food champions, with several Lewis County residents being honored. The evening will offer a chance to create and strengthen connections around increasing local food access. The host is Nature Nurture Farmacy, a non-profit community health center and apothecary in downtown Chehalis.
The idea behind this dinner is to stand as a complement to the dinners in fall which celebrate the end of harvest. This gathering is intended to inspire the community– moving into spring and a new growing season. For the pot luck, attendees are encouraged to bring a dish that makes the most of preserved goods from our abundant summer and fall bounties. Last year, over 100 people came together and filled seven tables with pickled veggies, salsas, dips, salads, rice dishes, stews, chili, breads, jams, cakes, and cobblers. The enthusiasm in the room was accompanied by live music.
This event supports the Project Food Is Medicine program, which offers classes on nutrition, cooking, gardening, and herbal medicine; a community seed library; support for community/school gardens; and partnerships that connect residents directly with local farmers and nutrition resources.
The tickets are free, with a suggested donation. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit the event website.
