On Saturday, September 9, it’s time for the always fabulous and ever-popular Dick’s Cornhole Tournament & Sausage Fest! Located at Dick’s Brewing Company in Centralia, the annual event is a don’t-miss occasion for beer lovers and cornhole aficionados alike.

The day of fun for those who are 21 and over starts at high noon, but the bags don’t start flying until 1 p.m., so get there early to enjoy a refreshing brew and one of Dick’s famous Old-World sausages before the friendly competition begins.

Dick’s Cornhole Tournament & Sausage Fest Fundraising for the Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund

This year’s funds from the tournament benefit the Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund, which supports area students with their educational endeavors after high school. Now established as its own 501 (c) 3 non-profit, the Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund honors the top 25 high school seniors in Centralia and Chehalis with up to $1,000 in scholarship funds.

“It’s a crazy fun day,” says Dick’s Brewing Company owner Julie Pendleton. “We block off the parking lot for the event, and everyone always remembers the raffle prizes, which also go to the Rob Fuller Scholarship Fund.”

Previous year’s events have sponsored the Centralia Community Foundation, another organization focused on schools, which Julie and the Brew Crew at Dick’s are passionate about supporting.

“It’s community,” she says. “We want the schools to be strong, for kids to be successful and be able to go to college, but want to come back here to the community to raise their families so they can continue making it better and a good place to live.”

Find Dick’s Famous Old-World Style Smoked Sausage at Sausage Fest

With the grill fired up and delicious brats and hotdogs complete with all the toppings from NW Sausage & Deli, the day is filled with yummy food, playful cornhole and some of the best beer around— after all, you can’t beat Dick’s meat!

“It makes it fun and something different from what we normally do,” says Julie. “Sometimes we do sandwiches from the deli for events here at the brewery, but we save the sausages for Sausage Fest.”

It’s a whole-day affair, and you don’t have to participate in the cornhole to enjoy the festivities. Some come to support players they know, eat the mouth-watering sausages, drink a few beers, do the raffles and support a great cause.

In true Dick’s style, the tournament is a testament to the company’s often tongue-in-cheek play on words.

“One of my favorite things about it is people come up with amusing team names, so it’s hilarious to track it on the bracket and say those names all day long,” Julie laughs. “Now, we use an app, and we have a screen on the TV, so we don’t get to announce the names as often, but we try to grab the mike and say them here or there. I like to hear those names.”

Register Today for Dick’s Cornhole Tournament & Sausage Fest

With 64 teams, the annual affair is the biggest cornhole event Dick’s Brewing puts on. “You are guaranteed two games, and if you do well, you play more,” says Julie.

Whether you are a “cornstar” or have never played in a “cornament” before, anyone who gives the bags a toss will find the sport entertaining at Dick’s Cornhole Tournament.

“Now, it’s one of the community things where everybody has a fun day,” says Julie. “We do a best of the worst tournament. When the first group of teams goes out, we have another tournament for them so they can play more games and continue the fun. People who have never played cornhole join in, or participants in our league come to play, so we have a wide range of skill levels.”

Julie and the Brew Crew invite everyone to enjoy the last days of summer with beer, brats and cornhole, all while giving back to local students.

Pre-register today for Dick’s Cornhole Tournament & Sausage Fest for $40 per two-person team — that’s just $20 per person for at least two games of cornhole. Sign up in person with cash or check at Dick’s Brewing Company or NW Sausage & Deli. The day of registration on September 9 will be $50 per team, but space is limited, so register early.
