Beginning today, Lewis County school children who have had symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 48 hours can be tested for the virus at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds by appointment ONLY.

Appointments can only be made by using the details given to local health care providers and the school districts. School superintendents are being given the details of how parents or guardians can schedule an appointment at this site. Local pediatrician offices are also receiving the information so they can refer patients as necessary.

This free service is designed to provide an additional resource for those students who need a test in order to go back to school and who cannot get into their health care provider in a timely fashion. Testing is limited to children enrolled in Lewis County schools. This free option will help to minimize the amount of time that a child has to spend out of school.

Lewis County Public Health and Social Services (PHSS), which is continuing its partnership with Bird’s Eye Medical for this service, will continue to work on details like the frequency and times that this site will be open. That information will be communicated with superintendents and pediatricians as it becomes available. PHSS and Bird’s Eye are considering options for expanding the service to other age groups in the future.

Any parent or guardian wishing to learn more about how to schedule an appointment should reach out to their local health care provider or to their child’s school district.
