Marking its forty-first year of providing books to Lewis County residents, the local branch of American Association of University Women will be selling books at the Lewis County Mall for FOUR DAYS: Wednesday, September 23 through Saturday, September 26. Hours daily will be 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Prices will start at $3 for hardbacks and $2 for paperbacks on Wednesday; $2 and $1 on Thursday; $1 and 50 cents on Friday; and $2 for a bag of books on Saturday.

If you have been reading more because of COVID-19 quarantining, here is your chance to pick up some new reading materials! This year the popular local sale will be held in a different and much larger venue at the mall with many more rooms. COVID -19 rules and precautions will be in effect and masks will be required. Those attendees who are concerned about crowds are encouraged to come during the late afternoon hours.

Since 1979 the Lewis County AAUW sale of used books has provided thousands of local residents with the opportunity to discover books of all types to purchase at bargain prices. This year many more books have been donated to the collections. Thousands of fiction and nonfiction books, plus CD’s and DVD’s will be on sale. Nonfiction books are separated into more than 50 categories such as biography, cooking, history, religion, gardening and self-help. Children’s books will be housed in a large separate room.

Proceeds from the popular yearly book sale support the mission of AAUW – education for women.  Scholarships are given to women attending college and to middle and high school girls for summer camps focusing on STEM subjects.  Lewis County AAUW also co-sponsors Expanding Your Horizons, a career day for middle school students, and Lunafest, a film festival featuring films by, for, and about women.

Founded in 1881, AAUW is the largest and oldest national organization working for the professional and educational advancement of women. The Lewis County branch formed in 1923 and has awarded hundreds of scholarships to women for over 60 years. For more information about AAUW, call 360-520-2859.
