Are you a cornhole master? Prove your skills on September 15 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and join Dick’s Brewing Company and NW Sausage and Deli at their Second Annual Cornhole Tournament. This fun event benefits The Centralia Community Foundation in their mission to better the future of Centralia. The organization supports education and civic enhancements that improve local quality of life. The day will be filled with music, beer, sausages, raffles and, of course, cornhole.

With hilarious team names like “The Great Cornholios,” the tournament is a fun way to compete while supporting a great cause. “People still talk about two of the teams from last year that won,” says Pendleton. “They were professionals.” Photo courtesy: Dick’s Brewing Company.

The cost is $30 in advance or $40 on the day of the event but space is limited, so register early. Team registration is accepted until full. The event’s slogan is “Be one with your sack, it’s in your blood” and teams are encouraged to come up with witty team names.

Enjoy delicious food including Dick’s bratwurst, German garlic links and spicy hot links for those who like it kicked up a notch. But the best part is the refreshing beer. This premiere craft brewery creates distinctive brews like Dick Danger Ale and Grapefruit IPA that satisfy every beer connoisseur. Or enjoy a glass of wine or cider. Non-drinkers can indulge in amazing homemade root beer.

There will be fun raffles with great prizes from Dick’s Brewing Company and other local businesses. A coveted prize will be a new Cornhole board and merchandise. Don’t miss a chance to win delicious Dick’s Brewing Company and NW Sausage and Deli gift boxes. A 50/50 drawing will also take place with a cash prize.

There will be sixty-four teams competing this year, up from the first year’s forty-four teams. With a double elimination bracket, competition is high. There will be awesome prizes awarded to the top three teams including Dick’s Brewing company gift cards and state of the art drinking vessels including stainless steel growlers and silicone pint glasses.

Dan Rich, President of The Centralia Community Foundation, says the funds raised will support the foundation’s mission of education and building a better workforce for the local area. “The ultimate goal of the foundation is to build a better, more educated workforce,” says Rich. “Through education, there’s more opportunity for better incomes for our community members.”

The Centralia Community Foundation also focuses on community projects. With generous community support, the foundation makes a difference in education. “By getting people better jobs, they, in turn, support our local businesses, change our high percentage of rentals to homeowners, and keep young people in the county,” says Rich. “With enhanced school systems, there are benefits to businesses countywide.”

The Cornhole Tournament is a great place to have fun and learn more about The Centralia Community Foundation. Dick’s Brewing Company recognizes the importance of community and is committed to supporting local, worthy causes. “It’s a new local community non-profit that benefits kids in the district,” says Julie Pendleton, Owner of Dick’s Brewing Company. “It’s close to home and making the community a better place.”

“I support the Centralia Community Foundation because I want Centralia to be a place that, after my kids leave for college, they choose to come back to the community they were raised,” says Pendleton. “I want Centralia to be the place that gives them the opportunity for a good career, a great community to start their family and a strong school district to raise their kids in.”

Many foundation members volunteer at the cornhole event. “Thanks to Dick’s for showing us how to do it exactly,” says Rich. “In the same way, we’re asking for other businesses and people to support the foundation. It doesn’t have to be monetary, but events like this get the word out about what we’re doing. Dick’s made this a fun and successful event for us and we really appreciate what they’re doing. Plus, they have beer!”

Last year, Dick’s Brewing company raised $4,369 with one donation of $1,000 coming from an anonymous donor. “We did really well for the first time but this year will be so much better,” says Pendleton. The goal this year is to raise double of what was given last year to The Centralia Community Foundation.”

Even if you aren’t the competitive type, the event is fun for everyone. “We would love your support,” says Pendleton. “Come, check it out, have a pint and cheer on your friends. It’s a lot of fun.”

Enjoy the last days of summer, drink amazing beer and enjoy a sausage while helping a great cause.
