What do a USA Today bestselling author, a local librarian and a retired aerospace engineer from California all have in common? They, along with a hundred other writers, will be meeting on Saturday, September 8, 2018 for the fifth annual Southwest Washington Writers Conference.
The line of presenters gathering at the Walton Science Center on the Centralia College campus includes: Simon Wood, the nationally known author of such thrillers as “The One That Got Away” and “Saving Grace,” flash fiction workshop leader Jordan Hartt, award winning children’s author Clare Meeker, The Marketing Coach Veronika Noize, novelist Bill Ranson, along with Andrea Culletto, Traci Hilton, Heather Dawn and Lindsay Schopfer.
This is the first year the Lewis County Writers Guild has been responsible for presenting the conference. The Guild acquired non-profit status this year with the sole purpose of establishing scholarships at the college while supporting local writers. Giving back to the community is something the guild feels strongly about.
So, what about the retired engineer and the local librarian? Well, they both sit on the board of the Guild and along with the other board and guild members have been the driving force behind bringing this stellar line up of instructors to Centralia as well as working to fund literacy and higher education in Lewis County – local people sharing local goals.
