Lewis County Public Health & Social Services (LCPHSS) Health Officer Dr. Rachel Wood has modified her July 22, 2020 sporting events Health Officer Order to allow certain outdoor sports.

The sports events now allowed include:

  • Equestrian events as outlined in Governor Inslee’s August 10, 2020 guidance for agricultural events;
  • Golf if the courses can abide by guidance promulgated by the State of Washington
  • Outdoor tennis.
  • Outdoor running events.

These allowed events may also include participants from outside Lewis County as long as they live in counties at the same Safe Start Order Phase, which currently is Phase 3 for Lewis County. This new order takes effect immediately. All other restrictions stated in the July 22, 2020 Health Order remain in effect.

According to Lewis County Health Officer Dr. Rachel Wood, the exclusions recognize that, in her best professional judgment, some outdoor activities are less risky than others. At the same time, she also believes that continuing the rest of the Health Order is necessary to help reduce COVID-19 infections here and across the state.

LCPHSS Director J.P. Anderson said, “This adjustment is thanks to hard work and collaboration by many in our local sports community. There may be more adjustments as we continue to move forward.”
