April is National Poetry Writing Month and the library is celebrating with fun in-library activities and contests!

Are you ready for the poetry scavenger hunt? Photo courtesy: Centralia Timberland Library.

Our Spine Label Poetry Scavenger Hunt gives patrons the opportunity to “find” poetry in the library using the spine labels of books, movies and DVD’s. Participants can upload and tag us on Facebook. Or they can turn in their bookmarks, signed with their name and contact info, to the Information Desk for a chance to win gift cards from Bead Opus or Shakespeare & Company.

Our magnetic poetry board gives patrons the opportunity to create poems to display in the library. We have included daily prompts from napowrimo.net to help guide or inspire anyone participating.

And for those curious, enthusiastic, skeptical or inspired by poetry, there are Poem-in-Your-Pockets at our displays for sampling different writers.

We also have a free program with poet Judith Adams, thanks to Humanities Washington, who will present The Poetic Apothecary, this Saturday, April 13 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
